Harry Stout Rocks Finalists
Seven south-west Michigan school band programs are set to battle for $ 10,000 in musical gear from RIT Music in Grand Rapids! The program, called Harry Stout Rocks is designed to help school music programs with a much needed infusion of musical gear for their programs.
This year, Kalamazoo Christian, Allegan, Vicksburg, Mattawan, Otsego, Kalamazoo Central, and defending champion Gull Lake will square off in a program where everyone wins.
Each school has a registration form at Harry Fest, the Harry Stout Foundation’s annual fund raiser held at Bittersweet Ski Resort on Saturday, May 30th. The school that has the most signatures at the end of the evening wins the top award of $ 5,000 MSRP at RIT Music. The school with the second most signatures takes the second place award of $ 2,000 and so on. With just 50 signatures, the schools are assured of a minimum of $ 500 in awards at RIT Music.
“This is band programs helping us help them” said HSF President Matt Adams. “Harry Fest is a free event so all people have to do is show up, sign the register and help their school win. We believe that once people arrive at Harry Fest and see how much fun it is, they will stick around and ultimately help us fund all of our causes.”
In addition to “Harry Stout Rocks,” the foundation also contributes to scholarships to area students and footwear for underprivileged elementary students. HSF is a volunteer driven organization and 100% of the funds raised go directly to our causes.
“All of our causes are focused on children and young adults, as well as things that were near and dear to our namesake, Harry Stout” said Adams.
Harry Stout was a 12-year old middle school student at Plainwell when he collapsed and never regained consciousness. The cause of his passing remains unknown but the legacy he created with his broad smile, kind heart and appreciation for the things he had lives on and is now touching the lives of many.
As in years past, Harry Fest will feature live music from 1:00 PM to 8:00 PM, festival foods, face painting, rides, volleyball, and many other attractions for people of all ages. This year will also feature a Poker Run for motorcycle enthusiasts, a Silent Auction and Live Comedy after 9:00 PM. There is no admission cost to attend Harry Fest. Donations, food sales, tee shirt sales and ride bracelets can be purchased and 100% of the purchase goes to HSF.
